It’s hereditary.
Old stuff gets me all excited! If it’s antique or vintage then I’m interested. I prefer to reuse older pieces versus buying new, and if it’s damaged or rundown I enjoy improving it. My family taught me the joys of reusing and recycling items. Not everything has to be new to be good, and not everything old is rubbish.
Specifically, furniture.
Antique and vintage furniture is some fascinating stuff. The craftsmanship and detail involved is truly an art. I believe that furniture is meant to be used and much of it will inevitably get damaged and rundown. Furniture doesn’t need to be thrown out because it has imperfections. Sometimes the bumps and bruises add to the character of the piece. Other times, the damage can distract from the beauty or hinder the functionality, but rest assured it can be improved in some way.
This is my jam.
I decided to start my own refinishing company out of my home. A decision I am very grateful to have made. I have a small shop off of my garage where I toil away on furniture - reviving, refreshing, refinishing, and repairing - day in and day out. I love it! I use new and old techniques, and my finishes are all done and applied by hand.
